On April 1st, WDIY launched a new combined analog-digital transmission
system to broadcast in HD Radio a transmission system that will allow
CD-quality audio throughout the 88.1FM signal area. Both traditional analog
and digital signals can be received on 88.1 MHz but a new HD Radio
receiver will be necessary to pick up the digital channel. 2005 was the
year that stations ramped up to begin HD broadcasting. 2006 is the year
that HD Radio receivers will become known to the public and available on the
electronics marketplace.
Special grant funding matched by local underwriting and membership pledges
helped purchase the HD Radio equipment. Your membership pledge today will
help WDIY built the next stage in the process multicasting which
will
allow WDIY to develop programming for a second digital channel as well as
program text information to air on the digital broadcast to be received
on
the new HD radios that are becoming available.
Help us grown in new service and new technology with your pledge today.
